Cheddar village is pretty and the home of cheddar Cheese but the limelight is stolen by the gorge an awesome 40feet deep cleft in the rocks which extends for nearly two miles. There are actually 400 caverns and potholes in this area. The best ones are open to the public and lit up to show the stalactites and stalagmites. Largest of these is Gough's Cave which goes underground for nearly a quarter of a mile, this is where The Cheddar man a 10,000 year old skeleton was found.
